Yam Concepcion stars in the first horror movie of the year ‘Nightshift” where she plays a med-tech student. The film was written and directed by Yam Laranas and it opened yesterday January 22 in cinemas.
In an interview during the movie’s premiere night last January 21, Yam shared the challenges she faced for her first horror role.
“Tinanong ko si Direk sabi ko, ‘Direk, first time ko gumawa ng horror film, paano kaya? I’ve never done one.’ Yam said. “Sabi niya, ‘You know, you just have to treat it like any other project you’ve done in the past. Pero ito, treat it as new character, new story pero ganoon pa din’...so ganoon ko siya tinreat.”
Yam continued, “Not because it’s horror kailangan ’yong treatment mo iba, it’s the same thing as doing other projects.”
Through this project, Yam revealed that she was able to feel different emotions that she has not experienced in the roles she has done in the past.
“Maganda din kasi dito sa film na na-test ko ’yong mga emotions ko na hindi ko pa nararamdaman sa mga ibang roles na nagawa ko. Maganda din ’yon, na-stretch for me.”
She then enumerated the kind of emotions she felt and later highlighted in the film.
“Fear, loneliness… but in a different character. Ibang kaluluwa ang pumasok sa aking katawan kaya naramdaman ko ’yong mga ganoong emotions na ang hirap pala…masyadong mabigat.”
The actress also shared how challenging its was to shoot most of the scenes with no co-actors.
“Ang challenging is ’yong ikaw lang mag-isa pag may eksena, paano mo dadalhin ’yon.” she said. “Paano mo ime-maintain na interesado ’yong mga manonood ng pelikula kahit na ikaw lang ’yong mag-isang umaarte doon, wala kang nakikita or nakakausap. So, paano mo siya gagawin?”
