Known for her passion for her craft, Asia’s Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo is an award-winning performer and artist. But did you know she reached a milestone no Filipino artist has yet achieve? From none other than South Korea’s major music award-giving body, the Mnet Asian Music Awards or MAMA.
Back in 2012, MAMA awarded Sarah with the “Best Asian Artist” from the Philippines along with five other Asian awardees: Chris Lee (China), AKB48 (Japan), My Tam (Vietnam), Taufik Batisah (Singapore), and Agnes Monica (Indonesia). Taiwan’s Wang Lee Hom was awarded overall as Best Asian Artist.
The star wasn’t present at the award ceremony but sent her thanks through a recorded video message.
“Thank you very much for this recognition! I am very honored to be the first MAMA winner from the Philippines. Thank you to all my supporters,”
The MAMA award is a big recognition especially for Kpop artists as it acknowledges the artist’s reach to a bigger audience.
It wasn’t the first time Sarah received an international award. Back in 2014 she was awarded the “Best Southeast Asian Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and “Best Asian Performer” at Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in 2016.
All these truly make Sarah Geronimo fit as “Asia’s Popstar Royalty”. Let’s all look forward to her next achievements both local and international.
