“Basta’t Kapiling Ka, Masaya ang Pasko” by Sarah Geronimo

2119

If you’re one of the Popsters who has been patiently waiting for Sarah G to release a new song, the day has finally come – for the Popstar Royalty has come to save Christmas. We gave you a heads up about it last week (See: Sarah G is Saving Christmas)

Nag-iba man ang takbo
ng ating kwento,
‘di matitinag diwa ng pasko

Although we already anticipate the classic songs being played in malls and other establishments (as well as Christmas carols, if caroling this year hasn’t been cancelled yet), this song that Sarah G. made with Coke Studio Philippines is one that is relevant especially with the circumstances that we are all facing this year.

Filipino celebrations are known to be grand. Christmas usually doubles as the grand family get together slash reunion of each year. While we can be filled with love the entire year, it is during Christmas that the everyone is in the spirit of giving love and well wishes to each other. We can’t say for sure if it’s the twinkling lights, the abundance of food and gifts, or just the general idea of spending a couple of days just to be with out loved ones.

With extended families and chosen families, the need for social distancing will truly limit us from having a customary Christmas celebration. But the song reminds us of what Christmas truly is about.

“Kay raming pagbabago
sa parating na Pasko
Ngunit ‘di magbabago ang pinakamagandang regalo
Ang sa puso’y magkasama tayo
Basta’t ika’y kasalo
Mas lalong sasaya ang puso

We may be facing a couple of changes this year, but we have to look at the more important things – that our families are still alive and healthy, and that’s something to be thankful for. We can all bask in the love we have for each other from afar this year, if that’s what it takes to keep each other safe. After all, we are all still together in love and spirit.
